Sumo Robot Contest
ITT Technical Institute
San Diego, CA
23 August, 2008

This page is here to support students and hobyists in preparing for sumo robotics events.
Rules
The campus has adopted David Cook's rules as shown in his Robot Room. Click this link to see the full rules. These rules have some amendments as shown below.
The basic size weight limits are:
- Japanese / 3Kg International Class
- 20cm x 20cm size limit, no height limit
- 3.0kg or 105.6 oz. (6.6lbs) weight limit
- Will use a 154 cm ring (154 cm = 60.63 in.)

Rule Amendments
Note: Paragraph numbers in brackets [ ] refer to that rule number in David Cook's Rules.
- All contestants must be students in good standing at any ITT Technical Institute campus site. ITT Staff or Faculty may compete, but are not eligible for any trophies or certificates.
- [4.2] Robot Qualifying: This section amplifies rule "4.2 Testing".
Robots will be required to perform two qualifying events prior to the Sumo Contest. All robots will be participating in the Sumo Event. These events are used to seed contestants properly and to give contestants a chance to demonstrate other skills.- FIND THE LINE: In this event, robots will be started in the center of the ring. Robots will score one point for each time they run over the outside ring and then back up to where they are clear of the white ring.
- PUSH THE BLOCK: An inanimate block of wood is to be placed in the center of the ring. A Round will be three minutes. When the robot begins to move, the timer will begin counting. When the robot pushes the block so that it touches the floor outside of the ring, the clock will stop. The block is then replaced in the center of the ring, and the process repeated. Robots score 10 points for each block pushed out of the ring.
- Note that for each of these events, it may be best if a separate program with different behaviors be used for each event. This is allowed and encouraged.
- [4.3] There will be no entry fee, however entrants must register before midnight, 10 August, 2008 to be eligible for trophies or certificates. Unregistered robots may compete, but will not be counted in scores.
- Register by following the instructions below.
- [7.A1.] The "International" Ring size will be used.
