San Diego Tech Fest, Fall/Winter 2009

There were very few students in the upper electronics classes this quarter, so there were not enough entrants doing the same thing to have many competitions. However, there were some excellent projects completed by students. Here are some of the best ones.

The most unusual and never-seen-here-before project was a radar display set up on a PC to receive and display distance and direction information using the Ping))) Acoustic sensor from Parallax.com.

This robot did three laps:

Notice how smoothly this 3PI takes the curves!

3PI Maze Solving Robots

Chris had the fastest time by completing the maze in 27 seconds.

...and close behind with 30 seconds was this entry.

And the prize for noisiest entry went to this entry that was supposed to retrieve CDs or DVDs from storage. Although time ran out before the project was completed, this was the first students used an Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to program a robotic arm.
